Hard Floor Restoration Alkimos

Hybrid, vinyl and laminate can look similar but may need different care. We identify the surface before discussing cleaning, protection or restoration for polished concrete, timber, vinyl and tiles.

Identify the floor first

Check the construction, wear layer, finish and any old coating. Avoid assuming that a product safe for tiles or timber is safe for hybrid, vinyl or laminate.

Hybrid flooring

Layered planks with a rigid core and a printed wear layer. Usually tolerant of damp mopping, but excess water at joins and harsh chemicals should be avoided. Deep scratches through the wear layer cannot be cleaned out.

Vinyl flooring

Sheet or plank vinyl is softer and can show dents and scuffs. Some vinyl has a factory coating or later polish layers, which affects which cleaners and pads are suitable. Previous treatments should be discussed first.

Laminate flooring

A fibreboard core under a photographic layer, so it is sensitive to moisture. Cleaning is kept low-moisture. Swelling at edges or worn patterns are wear issues that cleaning cannot reverse.

Care instructions that fit the material

Use gentle, suitable cleaning methods, remove grit promptly and limit excess moisture where the floor requires it. Options depend on finish, damage and previous treatments.

The right routine depends on what the floor is made of, how it is finished and what has been applied to it before. Start with the manufacturer’s care instructions if you have them. If you are unsure whether a floor is hybrid, vinyl, laminate or timber, ask before using any new product or method.

Hybrid, vinyl and laminate

Use a barely damp mop rather than a wet one, as standing water can reach joins and edges. Avoid steam mops, abrasive pads and polish-style products unless the manufacturer approves them.

Timber

Dry-sweep or vacuum often to remove grit. Wipe spills quickly and use a cleaner suited to the coating. Felt pads under furniture help limit new scratches.

Tiles and grout

Use a pH-neutral cleaner and change mop water regularly so dirty water is not left in grout lines. Harsh acids and bleach can damage some tiles, grout and sealers.

Polished concrete

Remove sand and grit before it is ground in underfoot. Use a mild cleaner and avoid products that leave a film, as residue can make the surface look dull.

What care can and cannot do

Good routines slow down wear, but neither care nor cleaning can remove every scratch or worn area. Whether restoration is an option depends on the material, finish, damage and any previous treatments, so it is only possible after an assessment. Call 0415 144 020 to talk it through.

Alkimos hard floor FAQs

How do I tell hybrid, vinyl and laminate apart?

Look at the product information, joins, surface pattern and wear layer. If unsure, an inspection is safer than guessing.

Can a standard floor cleaner be used?

Not automatically. Cleaning products and moisture levels should suit the material and finish. Ask for guidance when the surface is uncertain.

Will cleaning repair worn areas?

Cleaning cannot fix every scratch or worn patch. Restoration options depend on assessment of the surface and its previous treatment.
